Birthday Celebration

Last week, the boys went to a friend's birthday party.  Apparently, we have a laser tag place in our hometown, which I didn't know about, but it also has a bunch of video games and a log jump.  They had a great time hanging out with friends and testing their skills.

Happy Easter!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter.  The boys and I were very busy.  We went to an Easter egg hunt, dyed eggs at two different places, and we celebrated birthdays with the boys' cousins.  The Easter bunny visited Saturday night, then we went to Cheyenne on Sunday to have Easter dinner with family.  It was a blast!

River Monsters

My boys love to fish.  Even in the winter I hear about how they want to go ice fishing.  If they could make a living out of fishing, I know they would do it.  Because of this love, one of their favorite shows is River Monsters on Animal Planet.  I admit, this show is pretty good.  We all enjoy watching it as a family.  Some of the fish are really scary, but it doesn't seem to affect the boys.

On Saturday, we had some nice weather, so the boys and I headed down to the park.  As you can imagine, their favorite park is the one with the small fishing pond next to Spring Creek.  Of course, we had to walk up and down the banks and look for river monsters.  The boys had a great time "capturing" the beasts of the deep.  (We didn't actually see any real fish, they only caught those from their imagination.)

Spring Break Vacation

Spring Break in Wyoming is never exceedingly warm.  In fact, most of the time, we have a huge snow storm.  That's what happens when you schedule it in March.  Still, we have the ability to have fun, and this year we went to Jackson Hole to watch the hill climbs.

The trip was mixed.  Part of it was fun, and part of it wasn't.  Unfortunately, the oldest got a stomach bug, so there were moments where his tummy hurt and he was pretty miserable.  Some nights he also didn't sleep very well.  We tried to have as much fun as possible, and we were pretty successful.  The boys had a great time playing in the snow and sliding down the hill.

The hill climbs are a championship event for snowmobilers to prove that they are the best.  To do that, they take their sleds up this huge mountain.  The picture doesn't really do the mountain justice.  It was really steep and really long.  Once they get through the black gate, they turn into dots against the white snow.

This is the gate they started from to head up the hill.

In addition to snowmobiles, they also had some snow bikes, which are basically motorcycles with skis and a track put on them.  It was a lot of fun to watch them ride up the hill.  I think this may have been the boys' favorite event of the weekend.

In addition to watching the races, we also made a trip to the elk refuge.  Thousands of elk migrate to this area every year to find food and survive the harsh winters.  They have wagon rides that take you right up next to the elk--mainly the bull elks.  The females and the babies keep their distance, and us humans respect that so we don't freak them out.

While there, the oldest saw three bald eagles (I only saw two), which totally made his day.  There were also a whole bunch of awesome bull elks that we got pretty close to.  It was a lot of fun, and we learned a lot about these majestic animals.

Our Spring Break was a lot of fun, and I look forward to more vacations with my family.  Did you do anything exciting?
