Happy Birthday!

Last Wednesday was my oldest's birthday.  He turned 7 years old.  For his actual birthday, we went out to dinner with family, then headed back to the house to open presents and have cake.  He got to pick where we went, and all of us enjoyed it very much.

In addition, he also got to decide what he wanted to do for his party.  In years past, we've gone swimming at the rec center and to Chuck E. Cheese for food and fun.  This year, he decided he wanted to have a sleepover.  He had been to one before and had a blast, so he decided to have one of his own.

On Friday night, several of his friends came over.  They had a great time playing in the back yard, eating pizza, opening gifts, eating cake, playing video games, and eventually falling asleep to Puss in Boots.  It was a great birthday, and I can't wait for him to be able to do it again next year!

Ice Skating

My kids and my spouse convinced me to do something I haven't done in at least 20 years:  they got me to go ice skating.  Thankfully, I remembered more than I thought I would, and I didn't fall once.  There were a couple close calls, but I stayed upright.

The oldest had been skating several times before, but this was the second time for the youngest.  They fell way more than I did, but they're closer to the ground and made out of rubber, so they didn't get hurt.  We had a fantastic day and I'm so glad they convinced me to go!

The "walker" really helped keep the youngest upright and give him a lot of confidence.

Tummy Monsters!

Recently, I had the privilege of doing a reading for the Big Brothers Big Sisters.  I read them both Mr. Chocolate and the Magic Js and There's a Monster in Mommy's Tummy.  They were thrilled. They were so quiet while I was reading, I heard my voice echo through the gym.  It was awesome!

After the reading, the both the teachers and the kids were kind enough to make drawings of their tummy monsters.  It was so cool that they were willing to share them with me, so I would like to share them with you.  Enjoy!

Hanging with Dad

Recently, I attended a writer's conference in Seattle.  I was gone for 5 days and had a great time hanging with other writers.  While I had fun, I was still very happy to come home.

While I was gone, all of my boys went on a snowmobile trip.  They had a wonderful time riding and building a campfire to cook lunch.  I'm sad I missed hanging out with them, but I'm glad they had fun!

Motorcycles and Martial Arts

We love to do things as a family.  We always have the best time hanging out with each other.  We also like to check out new things, and recently we got to see Nuclear Cowboyz.  None of us had seen them before or gone to a motorcycle show, so we were all very excited.

The show was AWESOME!  Motorcycles flying through the air, martial artists doing amazing stunts and staging fights, what wasn't to like?  It was a great way to spend a family afternoon.
