School is in Full Swing

The youngest started kindergarten a few weeks ago.  He was so excited and could hardly wait.  Now, however, I feel the school thing has already worn thin.  Same with the oldest.  He told me he couldn't wait until he had homework, and last week we already had problems getting it done.

Despite all the issues, the boys seem to be thriving at school.  And they'll settle in just fine.  Eventually, I'm sure they'll even have some favorite subjects.

How are things going for you so far?

A Weekend of Fun

This past weekend was busy.  We did a 5K, went to a football game, and enjoyed time at a company picnic.  The weather was super nice, and we all had a great time.  Did you do anything exciting this weekend?

Hooray for football season!

Birthday Fun at the Firehouse

This weekend, the boys went to a friend's birthday party--at the firehouse!  They got to check out an ambulance, see the various fire trucks, try on the gear, and learn about fighting fires.  Afterwards, they got cake.  They had a great time!

Helping Around the House

The boys are great at helping around the house.  When asked to pick up, they do.  The youngest really enjoys helping out.  He even helps me clean the bathrooms, and he enjoys painting.  Recently, he got to help stain the back fence.  He was extremely happy to help, and the fence looked great when they were done.

What kinds of things do you do to help out around the house?

Dinosaurs!

Last week, the family and I had the pleasure to travel to Thermopolis, Wyoming.  I was giving a presentation at the library, and since it's a 4-hour drive, we decided to make a family day of it.

We had so much fun!  We went to the Dinosaur Museum and played at a park before heading to the library.  It was such an awesome day.  We all want to go back and spend more time there!

While we were in town, before we had to go to the library, we found a playground for the kids to play on.  While there, a mother deer and her twin babies (who still had spots) were casually grazing.  It's hard to see them in this photo, but they were adorable!

Some Time in the Sun

This weekend the boys hung out with their cousins.  We decided to head to Lake Hattie, which is about 30 minutes from town.  It was an awesome day.  The weather was perfect--the wind was hardly blowing (just enough so it wasn't overly hot) and the temperature was just right.  They had an awesome time swimming near the shore.

Even the dog went and had a great time.  He absolutely loves getting out into the water and swimming.  He even dunked his head under several times looking for rocks.  It was an amazing day!

Lake Hattie is called a "plains lake" for a good reason.  It is surrounded by flat, open land, and in the distance you can see the mountains.

Camping with Grandma and Grandpa

The boys got to go camping with grandma and grandpa this weekend.  It sounds like they had a great time.  They got rained on, went fishing (didn't catch anything), made s'mores, played card games, and danced around the fire.  Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures to share.

The boys love camping.  They've been going since they were little.  The youngest didn't like it at first, only because he kept falling over and getting dirty, but he really enjoys it now.

The boys love the outdoors and they have opportunities to enjoy them.  That makes me very happy!

Did you have an exciting weekend?

Home Again

We picked the boys up yesterday from their week-long adventure with my parents.  It sounds like they had a wonderful time.  They played tennis, went to the dinosaur museum in Vernal, Utah, hung out with their cousins, flew kites, and went swimming.

When they got home yesterday, the oldest went with me to pick up milk and pizza for dinner.  The entire time we were out, he didn't stop talking.  He was making observations and just chatting away about anything and everything.  That night, while watching TV, it was fantastic to once again have their laughter fill the house.

I'm so glad my boys get to have these amazing experiences and adventures, but I'm also very happy when they come home.  I hope you're all having a great summer!

Finding Friends and Leeches

My boys get to continue their summer adventure by spending a week with my parents.  I dropped them off yesterday.  They are going to have a great time.

On Saturday, before they left, we headed down to the park to enjoy the sunshine.  My boys are the type of kids who find friends wherever they go, and this trip was no different.  The group of boys instantly became friends and went exploring together.  They were thrilled and disgusted to find clumps of leeches in the creek at the park.

All in all, good times were had by all.

Happy 4th of July!

I realize this is late, but I hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend.  We had fun in our family, but it was bittersweet.  My boys had the opportunity to spend time with their aunt and uncle in Seattle with their grandma.  I'm happy that they got to experience this trip, but I was sad that they were so far from home.

They are coming home tonight, and I can't wait to see them!  Here's some pictures from their vacation fun.

Happy Anniversary!

This weekend, we went to Rock Springs to help my parents celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary.  It was a blast!  We had a party and hung out with family.  We couldn't remember the last time all of us kids were there with our families.

In addition, all the cousins got to hang out together and had an awesome time.  We really need to do this more often!

The cake was absolutely delicious!  I had two pieces.

My parents, my siblings, and I.

The kids were even helpful with taking photos and keeping themselves busy!

Jeepin'

This weekend we got away from the city and headed into the hills for some fresh air.  We had a great time hiking, riding around on the Jeep trails, and picnicking.  Flowers were in full bloom and the grass was green.  We even saw a deer up there!

Later in the afternoon, we went to the theater to see How to Train Your Dragon 2.  It was AWESOME!

We had a fantastic weekend.

Can you see the deer in this photo?

We're Going to the Zoo, Zoo, Zoo

Actually, we already went to the zoo, and we had a great time!  We spent Father's Day hanging out as a family and checking out all the awesome animals.  The boys even helped me take pictures.  Can you tell which ones are theirs?

The oldest's favorite part of the zoo was Monkey Island and Monkey Village.  The  youngest really liked ALL the animals.  We can't wait to go back!
